Nocciole di Giffoni
La regina tonda di Giffoni
In Giffoni, a small town in the province of Salerno, the end of summer brings with it the birth of the infamous Giffoni PGI hazelnuts, also known as Tonde for their perfectly round shape.
The cultivation of Giffoni hazelnuts in the Campania region is very ancient, attested as early as the 3rd century BC by Latin writers. Having survived to the present day, these round queens have an aromatic flavor and are eaten raw, or in grains, or in the preparation of desserts, first and second courses… the use of these “nocelle” is truly infinite.
In Giffoni you can buy hazelnuts or products made from them from various producers such as Bottega della nocciola (which also has an online store), or from Azienda agricola Redonda, or even from Grimaldi nocciola.
