Visit Janua, the witches museum of Benevento
The museum dedicated to the janare of Benevento
Benevento is also known as the “city of witches”, the “janare”, of the faithful devoted to the cults of Isis and Diana, from which the term derives, who held Sabbaths under the walnut trees on the banks of the Sabato river.
Janua, the witches museum of Benevento is dedicated to the legend of these fascinating figures, strong and free women who knew the magic that lies in nature.
It is the Palazzo Paolo V located in Corso Garibaldi, right in the center of the city of Benevento, which houses Janua, the witches museum of Benevento.
The visit consists of two moments: the multimedia exhibition, during which the visitor will be projected into a dark and magical world to discover rites and legends, and the exhibition room made of witchcraft objects and a path to discover popular medicine and the herbs of the janare.
If you happen to meet a janara, you must grab her by the hair and when she asks you “what are you holding in your hand?”, answer “fierro e acciaio”, so that she cannot free herself from your grip.
Located in Benevento, near the witches’ museum, La Fara B&B offers accommodation with air conditioning and free WiFi.
