The ferryboat docks at the Porto (Harbour) of Marina di Procida.
Walk along the uphill road and you will see right in front of you the promontory of Terra Murata, a fortified medieval hamlet overhanging the sea.
Keep on walking uphill and you will get to the Palazzo d’Avalos (Avalos Palace), a former prison, and to the Abbazia San Michele Arcangelo, an abbey dedicated to the patron saint of Procida.
Going down towards Piazza dei Martiri, you will reach via San Rocco where you will find the Gradinata del Pennino (Pennino Staircase) that leads to Marina Corricella, the fishermen hamlet that has a small harbour dating back to the 17th century.
You can’t miss “la corricella” with its pastel coloured houses and its narrow roads that are worldwide famous.
If you stop at a restaurant, besides the great fresh seafood, try the coniglio alla procidana (Procida-style rabbit), that is the rabbit cacciatore recipe modified in the Procida-style.
One of the things to do in Procida is definitely to have a bath at one of the many beaches of the island, with their typical dark sand due to the volcanic origin of Procida.
Moreover, you can’t miss a tour of the Vivara island, that is a strip of land rich in Mediterranean scrub right in the middle of the Gulf of Napoli. Just keep in mind that the visit of the island requires advanced booking.
