The paths of Faito

Mount Faito is part of the Lattari Mountains, the backbone of the Sorrento peninsula. It is characterized by limestone rocks and beech trees, but there are also holm oaks and chestnut trees, and can be reached by the paths that start from Castellammare di Stabia and Vico Equense.

Always carry a backpack with some snacks and water, and wear trekking shoes, a windbreaker, and a hat.

TREKKING FROM CASTELLAMMARE TO MOUNT FAITO UP TO THE PEAK OF MOLARE

From the center of Castellammare (not far from the port and the municipal villa and right next to the Circumvesuviana stop) the Faito cable car departs, a bi-cable system that in the summer goes back and forth from Mount Faito from 10:00 to 17:00 and costs 8.00 return.

In eight minutes the cable car takes you to the arrival station located at 1,100 meters above sea level from where the CAI 36 trail starts, which heads towards the Sanctuary of San Michele.

Near the sanctuary there is a quarry square, from the left of which the CAI 50 trail starts, which connects with the CAI 36 in the direction of Molare-Acqua Santa. After passing the belvedere you reach the Acqua Santa spring where you can drink, then continue downhill and cross the Alta Via dei Lattari. From the path on the right you enter the beech forest, at the crossroads between Conocchia and Molare you continue to climb up to the top of Mount Molare.

The path from Castellammare to the top of Mount Faito is easy but long, and lasts six hours plus the return.

From Corso Filangieri in the center of Vico Equense, a few steps from the Circumvesuviana stop, take Via Santa Maria del Toro which leads to the sanctuary of the same name. From here, take Via dei Mulini, an uphill road that passes through the olive trees to Via San Francesco, where if you want you can stop to visit the convent of San Francesco.
