Irpinia wines
All wines with the Irpinia DOC and DOCG denomination
The territory of Avellino with its hills, volcanic soil and long summers gives white and red grapes that have been awarded the Irpinia DOC and DOCG denominations.
Irpinia wines are known throughout the world.
IRPINIA BIANCO DOC wines are made up of half Greco grapes and half Fiano grapes, such as Coda di Volpe and Falanghina, while IRPINIA ROSSO DOC includes Aglianico, Sciascinoso and Piedirosso grapes.
The grapes for these Irpinia wines are also available in sparkling or passito varieties.
Irpinia boasts three DOCG denominations: Taurasi, which comes from Aglianico grapes and is called the “Barolo of the South”; Greco di Tufo, which is a dry wine with an intense flavour; and the fresh Fiano di Avellino.
Don’t miss the opportunity to visit one of the wineries in Taurasi, such as the Antonio Caggiano Wineries where you can eat at the Caggiano family’s farmhouse with a tasting of Taurasi DOCG wines, or the Guerriero winery, the Leonardo wineries, the Guastaferro wineries, the Caspariello Giovanni winery and Vigna Villae.
The Feudi di San Gregorio wine cellars, immersed in the greenery of Sorbo Serpico, are the work of architect Hikaru Mori and designers Massimo and Lella Vignelli.
Inside the Feudi di San Gregorio complex there are: the starred Marennà restaurant, the wine theatre and the room suspended between the barriques.
