Cilento National Park: World Heritage

The Cilento National Park is a wide protected area in the World Heritage List, a geopark and a biosphere reserve, rich in history and wild nature.

WHAT TO SEE IN THE PARCO CILENTO NATIONAL PARK

The Cilento National Park includes 8 mountain communities and 80 villages that are in the southern area of the Salerno district up to the eastern area of the Basilicata region. There are many things to see and discover, so you better chose a destination and then move to the areas nearby.

The protected marine areas of the Parco del Cilento are the Santa Maria di Castellabate‘s one and the Costa degli Infreschi‘s one, but the park includes the whole Cilento coast.

There are many places of historic interest within the Park, such as  the Camerota archaeological site and the Elea-Velia archaeological site, the Paestum Archaeological Park, Roscigno vecchia, San Giovanni a Piro, the Certosa di Padula (Padula’s Charterhouse), the Medieval hamlet of Sanseverino di Centola.

Moreover, you will also find many naturalistic beautiful sites within the Cilento National Park, such as the island of Licosa, the Gole del Calore (Calore river’s Gorges), the Grotte di Capo Palinuro (Capo Palinuro Grottoes), the oasi di Morigerati (Morigerati Oasis) with its grotte del Bussento (Bussento Grottoes).

If you want to visit the Cilento side of the Park you should get to Capaccio-Paestum or Sapri first.

THE PATH THROUGH THE PARCO DEL CILENTO

The Parco del Cilento offers many excursions through its beautiful Mediterranean scrub, such as the sentiero della primula (Primrose path) in Capo Palinuro, the lovers path in Ascea and the sentiero degli Infreschi (Infreschi path) in Camerota.
