Palinuro is in Centola, not far from Pisciotta. It is one of the most popular tourist destinations thanks to the wild nature of Capo Palinuro and to its wide golden sunny beaches.
Palinuro is famous because of its beaches and grottoes, but it offers much more, such as the historic centre, the small workshops and the Antiquarium overlooking the sea with no admission fee, that houses a great collection of obsidian finds dating back to 6000 years ago and several Roman, Greek and Enotri remains.
The harbour is beautiful as well. It is perfect to have a walk or a dive from the harbour’s beach.
The gem of the area is definitely Capo Palinuro, the promontory rich in grottoes and wild nature, where the beautiful Primula palinuri grows. Here you will also find the Faro (Lighthouse) and the famous Arco naturale (Natural Arch), besides many bays and inlets.
You can even have a boat tour of the whole promontory of capo Palinuro and of the grottoes as well, leaving from either the harbour of Palinuro or the harbour of Marina di Pisciotta.
Ten minutes driving away from Palinuro there is the evocative Medieval hamlet of Sanseverino di Centola; whereas, driving along via Mingardo you will reach Marina di Camerota in 30 minutes.
To reach Palinuro by car you have to drive along the A3 SA-RC highway, take the exit signposted Battipaglia and proceed along the SS18 state road towards Agropoli-Vallo della Lucania. Take the exit signposted Poderia and proceed along the SR562 regional road that will take you to Palinuro in 15 minutes.
By train: take one of the Roma-Reggio Calabria trains that leave from both the Salerno train station and the Napoli train station and stop at the Pisciotta-Palinuro train station, that is 8 km away from Palinuro. Then take one of the Infante buses towards Marina di Camerota.
By boat: in summer you can take one of the Cilento Blu hydrofoils by metròdelmare.it that leave from Napoli, Salerno and the Amalfi Coast.
