PUNTA CARENA LIGHTHOUSE AND THE PATH OF THE BOURBON FORTS

In Anacapri there is the Punta Carena Lighthouse which is also the arrival point of the path of the Bourbon forts, a walk among breathtaking views that touches the three forts that guarded the entire Gulf of Naples.

Capri was constantly attacked by pirates, so it was decided to guard the island with forts built between the 9th and 15th centuries. The Bourbon forts constituted a real outpost to guard the Gulf of Naples.

The main forts are Orrico, Mesola and Pino, to which is added that of Tombosiello.

The Bourbon forts path starts from the Blue Grotto (reachable by bus from Piazza della Pace in Anacapri).

From the cave, after about 500 m, you will find yourself in front of the small square of Orrico where you go down the steps that lead to the Orrico fort, at Punta del Miglio.

Continue and keep left until you reach Punta Campetiello at the Mesola fort. From this point the walk continues to the Cala di Mezzo, also known as Fiordo d’argento, which arrives at a dilapidated bridge that overlooks the Rio Rosola.

Crossing the bridge you arrive at the Pino fort that overlooks Cala del Tombosiello where the fort of the same name is located.

From this last fort you take the road and arrive at the Punta Carena Lighthouse, where you can relax and take a swim.

The path to the forts lasts about 3 hours, and in the summer months it is advisable to bring a good supply of water, sunscreen, and a hat.
