The small village of Taurasi and its DOCG wine

Irpinia never ceases to amaze and the village of Taurasi is proof of this, with its small medieval center still surrounded by walls and its DOCG grapes, which give us the excellent red wine Taurasi.

WHAT TO SEE IN TAURASI

The small village of Taurasi is accessed through the monumental gate with the clock, from here you enter a conglomerate of small streets and noble palaces, such as Palazzo Capano and Palazzo Maffei, which form the medieval historic center of Taurasi.

To the left of an arched portal on top of which stands the noble coat of arms of the Gesualdo and the House of Este is the Castello Marchionale di Taurasi, from which you can enjoy a beautiful view.

On the second floor of the castle is the headquarters of the Regional Wine Shop for Irpinia Wines, while the stables host the Tau Sensory Path to discover the Taurasi DOCG, Fiano di Avellino DOCG and Greco di Tufo DOCG wines.

VISIT TO THE TAURASI WINE CELLARS

Don’t miss the opportunity to visit one of the wineries of Taurasi, such as the Antonio Caggiano Wineries where you can eat at the Caggiano family’s farmhouse with a tasting of Taurasi DOCG wines, or the Guerriero winery, the Leonardo wineries, the Guastaferro wineries, the Caspariello Giovanni winery and Vigna Villae.

In all the wineries of Taurasi you will find, in addition to other wines, the “house” specialty: the Taurasi red DOCG.

SMARTIP

From Taurasi follow the signs for Lapio where the imposing Ponte Principe is located, that is, the abandoned Avellino-Santa Venere railway, a place full of charm ideal for those who love photography.
