Together with the Aragonese Castle, the Church of Soccorso in Forio is one of the Ischia symbols par excellence.
Near the Church of Soccorso you will also find the Forio Tower which houses the Museum dedicated to the Maltese.
The Church of Soccorso is located in Forio on a promontory overlooking the sea which takes the name of Punta del Soccorso, and is easily recognizable by its completely white façade.
Inside the church there are various works, including a 15th century wooden crucifix which, according to legend, was found at sea by sailors, and votive naval models. Upon entering it is immediately clear that this is not just a place of worship, but a place dear to the people of Ischia.
The Church of Soccorso is open every day and the visit is free, you can get there on foot from the center of Forio or from Ischia Porto with buses lines 1 and 2, CS.

Forio is full of towers that were once used to spot Saracens and Turks, but the largest is the Torrione di Forio, dating back to 1480, which today houses the Civic Museum whose entrance costs €2.00.
In the lower room of the Torrione, exhibitions of various types of artists are set up, while in the upper room there is Giovanni Maltese’s permanent exhibition.
