Strega liqueur
The liqueur of the witches, a symbol of Benevento
Benevento is also known as the “city of the witches”, powerful women who knew better than anyone else that magic lies in nature and herbs, the same herbs that the spice merchant Giuseppe Alberti used to create in 1860 the iconic Strega liqueur… that still today is made by the historic family company in Piazza Vittoria Colonna 8.
This liqueur, that made Benevento and its legendary witches worldwide famous, is made according to the secret original recipe by its creator, that requires 70 different distilled herbs and spices.
The iconic yellow colour of the Strega liqueur is due to the saffron, and its well-rounded strong flavour depends on the ageing, that takes at least six months inside durmast vats.
Inside the Alberti family factory, that never changed since 1860, there is the Spazio Strega, a kind of museum-laboratory where visitors can learn about the history and production of the famous liqueur.
Near Spazio Strega, the Antum Hotel offers accommodation with a garden, free private parking, a shared lounge and a terrace. This 4-star hotel houses a bar. The property features a 24-hour front desk, room service, airport transfer and free WiFi in all areas.
Right next to the historic factory there is the Strega shop where you can buy some torrone sweets, stuffed pralines, sweets, cream spread and many more delicious things made with the Strega liqueur.
