Visit the Santa Sofia Complex in Salerno
Events, exhibitions and demonstrations in the setting of Santa Sofia
In Piazza Abate Conforti, in the beautiful historic center of Salerno, is the monumental complex of Santa Sofia di Salerno, built around the 10th century as the first monastery of the Benedictine Order dedicated to Santa Sofia.
From the beautiful double staircase of the Santa Sofia complex in Salerno you can access the church of the Addolorata, built by the Jesuits towards the end of the 16th century, inside which there is a beautiful majolica floor and side chapels with marble altars.
Instead, the monastery of Santa Sofia, in the adjacent via Trotula de Ruggiero, has a rectangular plan and is divided into three levels connected by a staircase.
The Santa Sofia complex is today one of the main cultural centers of Salerno, hosting the major city events, temporary exhibitions and events of all kinds.
Via Trotula de Ruggiero hides many surprises… such as the Papi medicine museum, the Convent of Santa Maria delle Grazie, and at the top the suggestive Giardino della Minerva, all you have to do is take this little uphill street right in Piazza Abate Conforti!
