The art of Campania in the Terranova Earls villa
The Correale di Terranova Museum in Sorrento houses the art of Campania in its many aspects, from the archaeological finds to the paintings, from the ceramics to the 18th century furniture that belonged to the Terranova earls.
It is in via Correale 50, in the 18th century villa of the same name that used to be the summer residence of the Correale family.
On the ground floor of the Correale di Terranova museum you will find the pre-Roman archaeological finds area, the Founders hall dedicated to the Correale family and the Sorrento marquetry hall, together with the library.
Going up the grand staircase you will reach the first floor where you will find the Flemish paintings hall, the 15th to 18th century Neapolitan art hall and the Louis Quinze style furniture of the Correale family. The second floor is dedicated to the 18th century Neapolitan and foreign landscape painters, whereas the third floor houses the ceramics collection.
Outside the villa there is a park with a boulevard that leads to the Belvedere Terrace overlooking the Gulf of Napoli.
Near the Correale di Terranova museum, we have the Villa Comunale of Sorrento and the Valle dei Mulini, furthermore in the surrounding area there are many places to stay such as the Bougainvillea Relais whose modern accommodations have memory mattresses, electric kettle and private bathroom complete with shower with chromotherapy, hairdryer and courtesy set.
A few steps away from the museum, within the Giardini di Cataldo farm, there is the Agruminato, a typical evocative citrus garden that you can visit. After the tour, the guide will show you how to make the limoncello liqueur and all of the citrus based drinks from the Amalfi coast.
