One of the most beautiful hikes in Italy, but we could say in the world, is the route of the Path of the Gods in the Amalfi Coast, connecting Agerola to Positano, offering a wonderful and emotional walk.
The path is accessible and it’s well marked (and totally free!), but BEWARE because it is long and could result disturbing for those suffering from vertigo.
The Path of the Gods (path CAI 327) starts from Bomerano di Agerola and winds through a mountain road passing through the Amalfi Coast, offering wonderful glimpses surrounded by nature. The path also fits the less skilled hikers, but you need to consider that it is more than 5 km long anyway and it takes about 4 hours. Once you reach the end of the path in Nocelle di Positano you can climb the 1500 step that will take you to the centre of Positano.
During the hike it is possible to come across several springs to fill your water bottle.
Once you get to Positano you can come back to Amalfi (or Sorrento) by the SITA Sud buses or, if from April to October, you can have a ferry-boat ride.
It is necessary to wear trekking shoes, a cotton t-shirt, a k-way, a cap, long fresh trousers and always bring a water bottle and a backpack filled with snacks with you, maybe a caprese sandwich with the famous mozzarella cheese of Agerola could be a good idea!
It may seem weird but midsummer is not the best period to experience this walk because during the hike there are sections unsheltered where the sun scorches.
Instead, the best option is either May/June or September/October, as in these periods weather is not so hot.
No, the Path of the Gods is not a hike suitable for children due to its length and because several overhanging spots are unprotected.
