The Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, better known as the Cathedral of Naples, is a monumental basilica in the historic center of the city, which includes the Basilica of Santa Restituta and the Royal Chapel of the Treasure of San Gennaro.
The cathedral is located in via Duomo 147, and can be reached by taking the L1 metro line which stops at Cavour station.
The beautiful Cathedral of Naples is the result of various stratifications and reconstructions.
The facade redone by Alvino in the 19th century is in neo-Gothic style with three portals, marble sculptures and a blind rose window. Inside there are three naves with side chapels, under the main altar there is the Renaissance crypt that preserves the mortal remains of San Gennaro.
From the left nave you enter the Basilica of Santa Restituta, testimony of early Christian art, from which you arrive at the archaeological area of the Cathedral where there are Greek and Roman remains. While from the right nave you arrive at the royal chapel of the treasure of San Gennaro in Neapolitan Baroque style, where the blood of the patron saint of Naples is kept.
Next to the chapel there is also the entrance to the Museum of the treasure of San Gennaro.
Near the Duomo, other wonders await you, such as the Sansevero Chapel and the MANN.
