The Salerno’s San Pietro a Corte monumental complex is in the historic centre of the city.
It is the only example of Langobardic palace architecture.
The Salerno’s Pietro a Corte complex area starts in the square of the same name and includes both the surface and the underground areas.
The church of San Pietro a Corte was built in the 8th century as requested by the prince Arechi II, and has 4 levels: the Roman thermal baths, the palatine chapel, the Paleochristian church and the Medieval public palace.
The pillars of the palatine chapel lies on the remains of the Roman thermal baths, that include the area under Palazzo Fruscione (Fruscione Palace). North of the church there is the Romanesque style bell tower, dominating the church of Sant’Anna.
