Paths of Ascea: Aurella and gli innamorati

Besides the sea and the Velia archaeological site, Ascea offers some really evocative paths, such as the sentiero Aurella that connects Ascea paese to Ascea Marina, and the sentiero degli Innamorati that leads to the torre saracena del Telegrafo (Telegraph’s Saracen tower).

THE SENTIERO AURELLA

The sentiero Aurella is an about 1 km walk through the Cilento nature that goes from Ascea Marina to Ascea paese (town) and the other way round, going through the Giardino degli Ulivi (Olive trees Garden) and several panoramic spots.

The section that goes from the seaside to the town is more demanding as the road is often steep, with a difference in height of more than 100 metres; whereas, going from the town to the sea is much easier as it is a downhill path.

THE SENTIERO DEGLI INNAMORATI

The sentiero degli innamorati starts in punta Telegrafo (Telegraph point), near the cliff of Ascea, with a wood boardwalk that marks the beginning of the 2 km path with a difference in height of more than 100 metres.

The walk through the Cilento impenetrable plants will take you to the top of the torre saracena del Telegrafo, that offers a breathtaking view of the Gulf of Velia.

SMARTIP

In Ascea paese there is a path that leads to the santuario della Madonna del Monte Carmelo (Madonna del Monte Carmelo Shrine) in the small village of Catona.
