The village of Sant‘Angelo d’Ischia: spas and legends

Quieter than Forio but no less beautiful is the village of Sant’Angelo d’Ischia, to the south of the island, perched on a tuff ridge.

Line 1, CS or CD buses leave from Ischia Porto and stop in Cava Grado, the square near Sant’Angelo.

WHAT TO DO IN SANT’ANGELO

UPPER PART OF SANT’ANGELO

The village of Sant’Angelo d’Ischia is divided into two: the upper part and the lower part.

In the upper part, which is where the tranquility of the village is most noticeable, we recommend visiting the Church of San Ciro in Ciglio which is made of green tuff, characteristic of the island, and inside which there is a water source.

Also in the upper part, near the Aphrodite Apollon thermal park, are the Fumarole dei Maronti on the beach of the same name, reachable on foot in 10 minutes from Sant’Angelo, or with a taxi boat for €3.00 from the port of Sant’Angelo .

The fumaroles, of which Ischia is full, are evidence of the volcanic activity underlying the island, in fact the Maronti beach in some places even reaches 100°, which is why it happens that the chef at the beach cooks the fish dishes under the sand!

LOWER PART OF SANT’ANGELO

Descending from the lower part of Ischia you come across the Church of San Michele and the Serata Fontana viewpoint, before arriving at Marina di Sant’Angelo, characterized by its pastel-coloured houses and small beach.

Here there are also bars and restaurants where you can stop for a break overlooking the sea.
