The terraces of the Amalfi Coast, in addition to hosting the fragrant citrus groves, also host the vineyards (whose grapes are DOC Costa d’Amalfi) that are found in particular in the hinterland, that is in the areas of Furore, Ravello and Tramonti.
Let’s go to the cellars with the wines of the Amalfi Coast!
AMALFI COAST WINES
Above Vietri sul Mare we find the Raito vineyards where Aglianico and Piedirosso vines are grown which fall within the DOC Costa d’Amalfi area.
AMALFI COAST WINES
In Furore, between Conca dei Marini and Praiano, clinging to the rocks overlooking the sea, grow the vines of Marisa Cuomo that are ancient and wild.
Here the qualities are: fenile, ginestra, pepella, ripolo, piedirosso, sciacinoso. The wines produced by the Cuomo wineries of Furore are Furore white and red, Costa d’Amalfi rosé, Ravello red reserve and white, Costa d’Amalfi red and white, Furore red reserve and the so-called “extreme wine”, that is, Fiorduva.
AMALFI COAST WINES
The basis of the wines of the Ravello sub-zone, just above Amalfi, are the Piedirosso, Sciascinoso, Serpentaria, Tintore, Aglianico, Falanghina and Biancolella vines.
One of the most famous Ravello wineries is that of Ettore Sammarco who produces the Selva delle Monache, the Selva delle Monache Riserva, the Terre Saracene and the Vigna Grotta Piana, all Costa d’Amalfi DOC.
Almost all the wineries offer wine and food tours with a tour of the vineyards, we highly recommend the tour of the wineries of Tramonti.
The small town of Tramonti has a very important wine production. The Costa d’Amalfi DOC Tramonti sub-zone includes the qualities of falanghina, biancolella, piedirosso, sciascinoso, aglianico, pepella, ginestra, biancazita and tintore, which dominates the hills of the town.
Here there are various noteworthy wineries such as Tenuta San Francesco, Cantina Tagliaferro, Monte di Grazia, Azienda agricola Reale Andrea and the vines of Giuseppe Apicella.
