The peak of the ancient hamlet of Agropoli is definitely the Aragonese Angevin Castle, a fortress built by the Normans during the 11th century and then renovated by the Angevins before the 15th century and by the Sanseverino family later on.
From the centre of Agropoli you can reach the Castle on foot by taking the stairway that leads to the Saracen Gate that is the door to the ancient hamlet.
The Aragonese Angevin Castle in Agropoli is a traditional fortress with a moat, a drawbridge, the round towers and the walls. It is well preserved and its courtyard often hosts events and performances.
Thanks to its position, the castle offers a breathtaking view of the Agropoli coast.
After visiting the Castello angioino aragonese, stop at the U Suricin pizza restaurant (via Passaro, not far from the small piazza of the ancient hamlet), where you can have a delicious pizza cut into slices and served in wicker baskets.
