Baths of Queen Giovanna: a secret natural pool

In Capo di Sorrento there is a romantic and uncontaminated place, hidden by the cliffs and wild nature: the Bagni della Regina Giovanna (Baths of Queen Giovanna in Sorrento), a beautiful bay with a natural pool delimited by an arch.

HOW TO GET TO THE BATH OF QUEEN GIOVANNA

To get there you have to take the 5070 bus heading to Capo Sorrento that leaves from piazza Giovanni Battista de Curtis (piazza of the Circumvesuviana train) in the centre of Sorrento.

From Capo Sorrento you can walk to the bay of the Regina Giovanna; the path is a 15 minutes walk along a hill (with a small staircase).

You just have to follow the road signs to the ruins of the Roman villa.

A BATH IN THE BLUE

In Capo Sorrento you will see the ruins of the ancient Roman villa dating back to the 1st century B.C. that belonged to the noble patrician Pollio Felice. Next to it there is a bay surrounded by cliffs where you will find a natural pool delimited by an arch; it is not that deep and the sea is crystal clear: Baths of Queen Giovanna.

This wonderful hidden bay was named after the Queen Giovanna II d’Angiò-Durazzo that used to have her summer baths there. She also used to meet her lovers there, away from prying eyes.

You won’t find any comfort here, just uncontaminated greenery and emerald green sea, so you better take some snacks and a water bottle with you.

Moreover, the path to get to the Baths of Queen Giovanna in Sorrento is not that comfortable, especially on the way back as it is steep, so put a pair of comfortable shoes on (not flip flops) and fill the backpack only with the essential as it is a hard climb.

SMARTIP

It is not a place suitable for families with children; moreover, the best time to enjoy it is early in the morning, so you can take up the best rock.
