Botanical Garden of Naples
A walk in the green oasis of the Royal Botanical Garden

The Royal Botanical Garden of Naples, founded by Giuseppe Bonaparte in the 19th century, is now part of the Federico II University and hosts plant species of all types on its 12 hectares of land.
The Neapolitan Botanical Garden is located in Via Foria 223. To get there, take the L2 metro and get off at Piazza Cavour, then walk for about ten minutes in the direction of Piazza Carlo III.
The areas of the botanical garden of Naples are arranged according to the systematic, ecological and ethnobotanical criteria. You will find the citrus grove, the pinophyta and the magnoliphyta, ferns and palms, typical species of the Mediterranean scrub, aquatic and medicinal plants, carnivorous plants and much more.
The garden also has five greenhouses including the Mexican tropical one – mangrove.
Inside the garden you will also find a structure dating back to the 16th or 17th century with four towers at the corners, which is why it is called Castle and on the second floor of which there is the Museum of Paleobotany and Ethnobotany, whose collection consists of plant fossils and artefacts in plant material.
