The Paestum Archaeological National Museum is beside the archaeological park and houses a collection of finds that recall the history of the city of Paestum from prehistory to the Roman period.
The collection of the museum includes finds from the ancient city of Paestum. It is divided in seven departments: prehistory, establishment of Poseidonia, Heraion at the Sele river’s mouth (shrine dedicated to the Goddess Hera), shrines, necropolises, Lucanian tombs and the Roman room.
The gem of the museum is the famous tomba del Tuffatore that was found during late 1960s in a small necropolis. This grave is unique as it shows Greek representational art unrelated to vase painting.
When the tour is over, stop at Paestum Burger & Drink in piazza Basilica for a delicious sandwich.
400 meters from the city’s archaeological site, Hotel Villa Rita is surrounded by a large garden with swimming pool and offers a restaurant serving typical Neapolitan cuisine. The rooms at Villa Rita are simply decorated in light colors and feature wooden furniture.
Just 1.9 km from Paestum Beach, Casa Franco offers access to a garden, a terrace and luggage storage space. The property features a garden and views of the internal courtyard, and is 1.7 km from Licinella-Torre di Paestum beach. Private parking is free and there is an airport shuttle service, available for a fee.
