In the beautiful setting of the Fjord of Furore, a deep and wild cove nestled in thesteep rocks, a unique sport event takes place: the Furore Marmeeting, a competition where the athletes challenge each other to dive from the cliff.
Oreste Varese is both the creator and the coordinator of this unusual sport event. During the Furore Marmeeting event, the athletes, real superheroes of the water, challenge each other to high dive, usually from 23 to 28 metres.
Each athlete, that usually is an expert in acrobatic diving, performs three dives from a platform nearby the bridge on the Fjord of Furore, which is 28 metres high overlooking the sea. The max speed ever reached during a dive is 100 km/h. The best athlete will win the high dive Mediterranean Cup.
A competition that will keep the audience in suspense, a unique event set in a must-see place of the Amalfi Coast. For further information please check the marmeeting.com website.
Starting from the bridge of the Fjord of Furore there’s a long staircase heading to the tiny but beautiful beach of Furore, where the sea is amazing.
You won’t find any comfort here, as the area is pretty wild, but there is a man who rents beach umbrellas and loungers. Be sure to bring some water and few snacks with you.
The small village of Furore is right after Conca dei Marini; from Salerno, take the 5120 SITA bus heading to Amalfi and from there take the 5080 bus toward Napoli, then get off at Furore. From Napoli, you can take the same bus (5080).
The bus stops exactly at the bridge overlooking the fjord of Furore.
