Furore and Praiano are two small villages on the Amalfi Coast, two seaside villages, two little untouristy gems to discover.
Visit the small village of Furore, right after Conca dei Marini. From Salerno, take the 5120 SITA bus heading to Amalfi and from there take the 5080 bus toward Napoli, then get off at Furore. From Napoli, you can take the same bus (5080).
The bus stops exactly at the bridge overlooking the fjord of Furore, a deep cove set between the steep rocks, where the sea is crystal clear and the sun hits only in the afternoon. The fjord of Furore is an extraordinary mix of sea, citrus groves, vineyards, rocks, Mediterranean scrub and old small houses clinging to the rocks.
Starting from the bridge of the Fjord of Furore there’s a long staircase heading to the tiny but beautiful beach of Furore, where the sea is amazing. You won’t find any comfort here, as the area is pretty wild, but there is a man who rents beach umbrellas and loungers. Be sure to bring some water and few snacks with you.
Before going to the beach (as the sun hits the place after 2 p.m.) you can have lunch at one of the restaurants overlooking the Fjord of Furore, such as La locanda del Fiordo or Euroconca.
Between Furore and Positano there is Praiano, another wonderful place set between the rocks of the Amalfi Coast, at the base of the Sant’Angelo a tre Pizzi Mountain.
From Salerno, take the 5120 SITA bus heading to Amalfi and form there take the 5070 bus toward Piano that stops in Praiano.
From Napoli, take the Circumvesuviana train until Sorrento and from there take the 5070 SITA bus to Praiano.
As soon as you enter the village, you will notice the Chiesa di Santa Maria a Castro, made with colorful majolica, the only example of baroque on the Amalfi Coast, where the Luminaria di San Domenico event takes place.
The church is in the Vettica Maggiore area, where the Cala della Gavitella (Gavitella Bay) is, a beach in Praiano where you can enjoy beautiful sunrises and sunsets. This wonderful beach is the reason why Praiano is called “the village that greets the sun”. To get to this beach, which is provided with all the comforts, you have to walk more than 400 steps.
On the opposite side of the village there is Marina di Praia, a small pebbled beach.
Whereas, off the coast of Praiano there is the archipelago de Li Galli. These islands are also known as the Le Sirenuse (the Mermaids) because legend has it that the charming sirens used to live there.
From Marina di Praiano you can also take a boat heading to the Grotte di Suppraiano (Suppraiano Grottos). Whereas, inside the Africana Grottos there is a discoteque where you can spend the night at.
