Visit the Archaeological Park of Ancient Abellinum
A dive into the past of Roman Abellinum
In Atripalda, right at the entrance to the centre of Avellino, there is the Archaeological Park of ancient Abellinum, custodian of the remains of the ancient Roman colony of Abellinum.
The ancient Roman Abellinum arose on the remains of a Samnite settlement.
Today inside the archaeological park of ancient Abellinum it is possible to visit the ancient city walls in opus reticulatum, the amphitheater and the Roman baths, and some public buildings. Also very beautiful is the Hellenistic-Pompeian domus that is believed to have belonged to the son-in-law of the emperor Augustus.
The fastest way to get a guided tour of the excavations is to contact the Atripalda proloco: prolocoatripalda.it
