The Campagna’s Chiena

In the months of July and August, in the torrid summer of Salerno, the traditional Campagna’s Chiena takes place, a town in the province of Salerno, a highly anticipated event that will bring a lot of freshness to all visitors.

In ancient times, it was customary to flood the streets of Campagna, a small town at the foot of the Picentini Mountains Regional Park, by diverting the course of the Tenza River to clean them. This tradition has continued to this day, becoming a real celebration for locals and tourists.

The main events of the Campagna’s Chiena are the bucket, where people douse each other with buckets of water, the walk through the streets flooded by the Tenza River, and the midnight chiena which takes place in the days following Ferragosto and which is the last time that the streets of Campagna are flooded.

During the days of the Chiena, various musical and cultural events are organized such as the Chiena Festival and the Trepiazze Festival.
