Santissima Annunziata Church: the dome that stands out over the historic center of Salerno

The Santissima Annunziata church of Salerno is right in front of the Villa Comunale (Municipal Villa) of the city, and it dates back to the 14th century.

STRUCTURE OF THE CHURCH

The Santissima Annunziata church of Salerno was built at the beginning of the 17th century, but its present look depends on the renovation made by Ferdinando Sanfelice during the 18th century, that built a Baroque-style bell tower that is the result of the Doric, Ionic and Corinthian orders mix, with a clock on it.

You will easily recognise this church thanks to its majolicated dome decorated with yellow and green tiles.

On the inside, there is just one nave, the main altar is faced with polychrome marble and flower decoration and is dominated by a polychrome glass window with the M for Mary on it.

The counterfacade houses the only Neo-Gothic pipe organ in Italy.

The church might be closed in the morning. It usually opens during Mass celebrations.
