Limoncello and Amalfi Sfusato: Specialties of the Amalfi Coast

Limoncello, a typical liqueur of the Amalfi Coast, is famous throughout the world and has contributed to the uniqueness of the Coast.

Not everyone knows that it is made with a particular type of lemon: the sfusato di Amalfi.

THE AMALFI SFUSATO

The Amalfi Coast lemon, known as Amalfi sfusato, is an I.G.P. product, and is produced only in the Amalfi Coast area in the so-called lemon gardens, which are located on the terraces at the foot of the Lattari Mountains, which protect them from the north wind.

The Amalfi sfusato is a fairly long lemon with leaves rounded at the tip, its peel is thick and rich in properties and essential oils, not to mention the fantastic scent it gives off. In fact, a walk through the lemon gardens of the Amalfi Coast is something you will not forget, such as the Amalfi Lemon Experience.

During the tour you can see how products such as limoncello, jams or honey from the farm’s bees are prepared.
The Lemon Tour also includes a visit to the Museum of Rural Civilization.

SMARTIP

You can find artisanal limoncello in all the villages of the Amalfi Coast, sometimes it is sold in special bottles that are beautiful to give as gifts.

THE LIQUEUR LIMONCELLO

The famous Amalfi Coast limoncello is obtained from the peel of the sfusato amalfitano, an excellent digestive with a fabulous taste.

The lemon peels are left to macerate in pure alcohol to which water and sugar are added, after which it is transferred to the bottle where it must remain for a month before being drunk.
