VISIT TO ANCIENT CUMA

The archaeological site of Cuma contains the history of ancient Cuma through the finds discovered during excavations carried out from the beginning of the twentieth century onwards.

Today, of the ancient Greek colony it is possible to visit the acropolis of Cuma with the Byzantine tower and the panoramic terrace overlooking the Gulf of Naples; the lower terrace is called the temple of Apollo, while the upper one is the temple of Jupiter. We continue with the ancient city forum, the hub of public life, which includes the temple of the giant and the thermal baths.

The Roman Crypta, a tunnel dug into the tuff, connects the forum to the sea, while to the north of the forum are the residential district, the walls and the median gate, outside of which there is the monumental necropolis.

The jewel in the crown of the Cuma excavations is the Sibyl’s Cave, where according to legend the Cumaean Sibyl, a prophetic priestess of Apollo, wrote her oracles on leaves.
