Visit the Castelcivita Caves
One of the largest speleological complexes in the South
The Castelcivita Caves are located in Cilento, in the province of Salerno, they are karst cavities and with their 4800 meters of length they cross the Alburni Mountains, extending into the municipalities of Castelcivita and Controne: in fact, they are one of the largest speleological complexes in the South.
Inside these suggestive underground cavities full of stalactites and stalagmites there are “tunnels, wide spaces and narrow passages dug by the millenary action of karst erosion”.
There are 4 routes of the Castelcivita caves:
Tourist: in one hour you can cover 1200 m and it is always accessible;
Amateur: in 3 hours you can cover 3000 m and it is accessible from June to October by reservation;
Speleological: reserved for professional speleologists
In the dark: it is a variant of the tourist route, but in the dark.
It’s a bit cold in the caves even in summer due to the humidity, so bring a k-way
