Gesù Nuovo Church in Naples

As soon as you reach the Naples Gesù Church, also known as Naples Gesù Nuovo Church, you will immediately notice the mysterious rocky facade. The church is located in one of the most busy streets of the city, known as Spaccanapoli, not far from the Santa Sofia Cloister.

The location of the Naples Gesù Nuovo Church was previously (1400 AD) the location of Sanseverino Princes Palace, that was confiscated and sold when Ferrante Sanseverino took sides with people during the Spanish inquisition. 

The palace was taken by the Jesuits that remodeled it keeping the peculiar ashlar facade with strange symbols carved on the small piperno pyramids. Those symbols could trace back to different stone sculptors teams that patiently modeled the majestic facade, but the esoteric Naples researchers think that those symbols were made by Templar artisans, that used to carve stones to soak them with positive energy so as to protect both the building and the residents.

The Gesù nuovo Church is one of the biggest and most important churches in Naples, with its interiors rich in frescoes and works of art. 

The inner structure, in Baroque style, is a Greek cross plan; the numerous side chapels together with the 18th century main altar are particularly interesting.

Many of the symbols carved on the outer ashlars are Aramaic symbols that correspond to music notes, that have to be read right-to-left bottom-to-top. The resulting melody is a 45 minutes melody fittingly named “Enigma”.
