Itinerary of the Historical Villas in Capri
A walk among the ruins of the villas of the Roman emperor Tiberius

When retired, the emperor Tiberius decided to spend the rest of his life on the beautiful Capri island. So, he asked for 12 villas where he could relax and loaf about.
Today, you can visit some of the historical Capri villas of Tiberius.
VILLA JOVIS
The main villa is the best preserved and also has the best view. Its name is Villa Jovis and is on the Monte Tiberio (Tiberius Mount) at more than 300 m above sea level. There are two paths leading to the villa and both of them start in piazzetta di Capri: one of them goes through via Longano and via Sopramonte up to via Tiberio; the other one goes through via Le Botteghe, via Fuorlovado and via Croce up to via Tiberio.
In summer, you can visit villa Jovis from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., instead, in winter you can visit it from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.. The ticket is 6 euros.
In Anacapri there are the ruins of villa Damecuta. You can get there by the Anacapri-Grotta Azzurra bus and entrance is free.
The opening hours depend on the season: in summer you can visit it from 10.00 a.m. to 12.00 p.m. and from 4.00 p.m. to 7.00 p.m.
In winter, instead, you can visit it from 10.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. and from 2.30 p.m. to 4.30 p.m.
Last but not least, near Marina Grande there are the ruins of Tiberius’ Villa dei Bagni. You can reach it by one of the many buses heading to Marina Grande.
From villa Damecuta you can easily reach the amazing Grotta Azzurra. It only takes a 30 minutes walk.
