The buffalo mozzarella cheese made in Paestum, together with limoncello liqueur, is worldwide famous.
The cows grazing free on the Cilento hills give an organic milk like no other, that gained the Campania mozzarella cheese the PDO certification.
The whole Paestum area, as well as the whole Piana del Sele area, is full of cheese factories producing PDO Paestum buffalo mozzarella cheese, that offer picnic areas where you can enjoy some local white gold; alternatively you can also have some yogurt and ice cream made with buffalo milk, tomatoes and buffalo mozzarella cheese sandwiches, slices of buffalo mozzarella pizza…every kind of local specialty that includes buffalo mozzarella cheese.
Usually, these cheese factories-agritourisms are overcrowded, especially in summer, so you better book a table so as to avoid queuing under the sun.
Here’s a brief list of the best factories in our opinion: Tenuta Vannulo, Caseificio e yogurteria Il Granato, Caseificio Barlotti.
400 meters from the city’s archaeological site, Hotel Villa Rita is surrounded by a large garden with swimming pool and offers a restaurant serving typical Neapolitan cuisine. The rooms at Villa Rita are simply decorated in light colors and feature wooden furniture.
Just 1.9 km from Paestum Beach, Casa Franco offers access to a garden, a terrace and luggage storage space. The property features a garden and views of the internal courtyard, and is 1.7 km from Licinella-Torre di Paestum beach. Private parking is free and there is an airport shuttle service, available for a fee.
