Morigerati: The hamlet-environment

Morigerati is also known as the hamlet-environment, as on one side there is the amazing hamlet offering a homey hospitality, and on the other side there is the Sicilì district, an expansion of the hamlet, where there is the WWF Bussento oasis with its grottoes.

HOW TO REACH MORIGERATI

Morigerati is ten kilometres away from the Gulf of Policastro as the crow flies. To reach it, just drive along the A2 highway and take the exit signposted Padula-Buonabitacolo, then proceed along the SS 517 (bussentina) state road and take the exit signposted Caselle in Pittari. Finally, follow the directions to Morigerati that is just 7 kilometres away.

THE HAMLET OF MORIGERATI

The Medieval mountain hamlet of Morigerati is a small village with wood and rock houses turned into shelters where tourists are welcome, familiar and cozy places, with a strong identity, not that expensive.

This small hamlet is a peaceful and quiet oasis, where tourism is more than slow in a good way, the small mountain roads are not busy and nature and zero kilometres products rule.

SMARTIP

Before starting your tour through the oasis, you can have breakfast at the coffee bar next to the visit centre that offers delicious homemade cakes.

THE OASIS OF MORIGERATI

From the hamlet, you can take a mule track that leads to the WWF Oasis of Morigerati where volunteers will welcome you, giving you all the information you need about the path you are going to walk. Take your time while touring the Bussento Oasis, walking through the impenetrable plants, where you can meet the local fauna, including otters and Salamandrina terdigitata.

You can also take a swim in the Bussento river, or visit the grotto where the river emerges back (making this geosite a very interesting site related to the karstic phenomenon), the ancient mill and the Museo Etnografico regionale (Regional Ethnographic Museum).

The Bussento Grottoes Oasis is open all year long but you have to book the tour at the Centro visite di Morigerati (Morigerati Visit Centre).
