Art in the Noce alley

From the piazza where the complesso di Santa Sofia (Santa Sofia complex) is, walk along vicolo Noce and you will get to the Benevento’s Hortus Conclusus Paladino, a small contemporary art museum under the sky in the former San Domenico cloister’s historic garden.

THE HORTUS CONCLUSUS COLLECTION

Right after the iron gate to the Benevento’s Hortus Conclusus Paladino you will enter a park surrounded by nature, a quiet place where you can get some relax away from the city centre noises among trees, palm trees and flowers.

All around the garden there are several works of art by Mimmo Paladino, a leading figure of the Italian transavantgarde movement, made in 1992 together with the architects Serino and Palmieri and the lighting designer Cannata.

Some of the installations are easy to spot, such as the bronze horse with the golden mask and the long-armed person, but there also are fountains and small sculptures hidden around the garden.

SMARTIP

Behind the garden, in via Annunziata, there is the Il Cinghiale restaurant that offers delicious homemade food made with boar meat, 0 km products and a warm welcome.
