The delizia al limone (lemon delight) is a unique cake made for the first time in 1978 by the pastry chef Carmine Marzuillo.
This small lemon flavoured cake quickly became one of the symbols of the Campania patisserie.
The delizia al limone or lemon delight is a sponge cake soaked in a limoncello syrup and covered in a delicious lemon cream. It may seem easy to do but it actually is very difficult.
You can match the lemon delight with either a shot of limoncello liqueur or a cup of espresso coffee.
In Sorrento, where the cake was created, you can have a great delizia al limone at the Gelateria Primavera (where cakes are better than ice creams) or at the Bar Rita.
On the Amalfi Coast you can have a delicious one as well. It is made with the Amalfi Sfusato lemon, the typical PGI lemon farmed on the terracing of the Amalfi Coast.
In Minori and Tramonti you can visit the Sal De Riso pastry shops, where you can find great delizie al limone, beside the famous “ricotta e pera” (ricotta cheese and pear cake). Whereas in Amalfi you really have to try the one made at the Pansa pastry shop.
