Punta Licosa is a promontory within the Licosa area, with Mediterranean scrub, cliffs and clear sea.
It is one of the most beautiful places in the world where you can have a swim or simply relax, with its bays, rocky seabeds, the pine forest, the wood, everything soaked in legend…like the siren Leucosia‘s one, that deals with a siren turned into a rock after jumping off the cliff because of a love setback.
Punta Licosa is part of the Area marina protetta di Santa Maria di Castellabate (Santa Maria di Castellabate Protected Marine Area), and it is between San Marco and Ogliastro marina.
You can get there only by walking along a street that from Ogliastro marina gets to a private gate where a keeper lets people in (usually only residents); alternatively you can take the path that starts in San Marco di Castellabate.
The path is definitely the safest way to punta Licosa. It is a 5 km path (often some cars travel along it too, but they’re just residents), so it is a 1 hour walk through Mediterranean scrub, villas and beautiful landscapes. You will get to the small harbour of punta Licosa and soon after that you will reach the wild beach. We suggest that you walk the path in the morning; you better not walk it in the afternoon when the sun scorches and there is no shade.
In front of the beach there is the island of Punta Licosa with its lighthouse, the place the legend of the suicidal siren Leucosia comes from.
From either San Marco or Santa Maria di Castellabate you can take one of the fishing boats that will take you to the island that keeps the Greco-Roman remains.
The seabed of Punta Licosa is made of rocks, so be sure to have a pair of proper shoes with you, besides a sandwich and some water.
