Unlike the Amalfi Coast, on the beaches of the Sorrento Coast the sun keeps on shining until sunset.
The beaches of Sorrento are small but still easy to spot thanks to the sea piles system used to get some space from the sea.
You can reach the spiaggia di Marina piccola by some steep steps from Piazza Tasso, or you can take the Sorrento lift (fee-paying) in the Municipal Villa.
This small beach is right beside the Sorrento Harbour and often overcrowded so we suggest some other small beaches nearby. In fact, not far from it there is the spiaggia di San Francesco (San Francesco Beach), a bigger dark sand beach where you will find several beach resorts.
In Marina Piccola you will find the hotel Il Faro, with marine themed rooms and just 5 minutes from Piazza Tasso.
The Spiaggia di Marina grande is an old fishermen hamlet with many restaurants overlooking the sea.
The local beach is small and dark sanded and you can reach it on foot from piazza Vittoria or by bus from piazza Tasso.
In summer, all the beaches in Sorrento tends to be overcrowded as they are pretty small, so you need to get there early in the morning.
The Bagni della Regina Giovanna are a natural pool hidden by the cliffs of Capo di Sorrento, named after the Regina Giovanna D’Angiò that loved this small inlet where she used to bath completely naked.
Take one of the buses heading to Capo di Sorrento that leave from the piazza of the Sorrento Circumvesuviana train. From here you can reach the Bagni della Regina Giovanna walking a 15 minute path.
The bay looks like a natural pool surrounded by rocks that, due to its unusual position, is always shady.
From Sorrento take the bus to Sant’Agata-Via Massa, get off at Puolo and walk through a olive tree grove to reach the Spiaggia La Pignatella near Marina di Puolo.
Unlike other beaches, it is a quiet place (unless you get there in July/August). This small bay set under a cliff offer the chance to rent a beach chair and a beach umbrella, but you cal also join the free beach area.
