Between the Vesuvian area and the Sorrento peninsula we find Castellammare di Stabia, a city in the center of the Gulf of Naples where you can organize a vacation suitable for every type of need, from the sea to trekking on Vesuvius, passing through the archaeological site of Stabia.
To get to Castellammare di Stabia by car, just take the A3 and exit at Castellammare, while by train from Piazza Garibaldi, Naples central station, you will need to take the Circumvesuviana Napoli-Sorrento and get off at Via Nocera, then take the 1 Red bus that will take you near Villa San Marco.
The visit to the archaeological site of Stabia begins with the two main otium villas: Villa San Marco, an ancient Roman villa in a panoramic position with a thermal area, and Villa Arianna of which 4 nuclei have been excavated: atrium and late-republican rooms, service rooms and thermal baths, rooms of the summer triclinium, Roman gymnasium.
Near Villa Arianna there is the area called Secondo complex, another otium villa whose excavated surface is 1000 square meters.
Continuing on you come across the shepherd’s villa, that of Anteros and Heraclo, the rustic villas and the temples of Athena and Diana. On the Rovigliano rock we find the temple of Hercules and in nearby Gragnano the temple of Cybele.
Finally, in the areas of Madonna delle Grazie and the medieval castle, necropolises dating back to the archaic and Samnite periods have been found.
From Castellammare, the cable car departs for trekking on the nearby Mount Faito, not to be missed for the breathtaking views of the Monti Lattari park.
