Caserta: WWF Oasis San Silvestro Wood

The WWF Oasis San Silvestro wood is a green area rich in centuries-old holm oaks that includes the Royal Bourbon Estate.

The oasis is located north of the Royal Palace of Caserta, on the hills of Montemaiulo and Montebriano that border the village of San Leucio.

In this lush forest inhabited by foxes, weasels, dormice and hedgehogs is the Real Casino di San Silvestro which at the time of the Bourbons was a place intended for agricultural, dairy and wine-making activities, as well as to welcome the king during hunting trips.

Today it is the headquarters of the Visitor Center of La Ghiandaia, the association that manages the oasis, and hosts the naturalistic museum of the forest, the refreshment point and various rooms used for workshops, exhibitions and meetings.

Near the Real Casino there are the Bourbon Frutteto and the picnic area in the shade of the holm oaks. The oasis also has a Guesthouse, a refuge with 24 beds and everything you need for your stay.

In the San Silvestro wood you can take different routes, such as the nature trail where you go around the entire forest touching the most suggestive points, the honey trail to discover the life of bees, the colors, scents and sounds trail, the historical and panoramic itinerary on the trail of the Bourbons, the mathematics trail of insects and the energy and recycling in nature trail.

There are also evening routes such as the fireflies or bats, or the constellations and shooting stars!
