The Cathedral: One of emblems of Amalfi

Amalfi‘s Cathedral, also known as Cathedral of Saint Andrew, patron Saint of Amalfi, it is unmissable.

Located right in the centre of Amalfi, in front of the characteristic Piazza del Duomo, it was built during the 9th century and the ancient Chiesa del Crocifisso (the Church of the Crucifix) and the beautiful Cloister of Paradise are part of its complex as well.

THE COMPLEX OF SAINT ANDREW OF AMALFI’S CATHEDRAL

The majestic Amalfi’s Cathedral has a neo-Moorish Gothic-influenced facade, and the bell tower dates back to the period between 1108 AD and 1276 AD. Indoors there is a Baroque altar, some frescoes, Gothic and Renaissance works; there is also the crypt built on the tomb of the patron Saint Andrew that boasts beautiful frescoes.

Part of the cathedral complex is also the three naved the Church of the Crucifix, the most ancient cathedral of Amalfi, dating back to the 9th century, today housing the Diocesan Museum of Amalfi.

PARADISE’S CLOISTER

Adjacent to the two cathedrals, the “old and the new one”, there is thE Cloister of Paradise, built in an Arabian-Norman style with an elegant garden and the surrounding vaults decorated with frescoes: a real silent and peaceful oasis.
