Visit Teano near Caserta

In the past Teano, a nice town right before the Roccamonfina-Foce Garigliano regional Park of Caserta, was the doorway to the Campania region (as it was located right at the entrance of the regional territory) known as Teanum Sidicinum, the capital city of Sidicini people.

Teano is 34 km away from Caserta and 60 km away from Napoli.

To reach it, drive along the A1 highway and take the exit signposted Capua, proceed along the SS6 state road and continue along the SP112 provincial road. Then take the SS608 towards Teano.

Right at the entrance of Teano, Caserta, there is the beautiful Teatro romano (Roman theatre) of the ancient Teanum Sidicinum, dating back to the 2nd century BC, that people can visit without paying any fee.

After visiting the theatre, to fully discover the ancient city reach the Museo archeologico di Teanum Sidicinum (Teanum Sidicinum archaeological museum) that keeps the finds from Oscan Teanum. The museum is open every day but Tuesday, from 8.30 am to 7.30 pm. It is housed by the Gothic-style Palazzo del Principe (Prince Palace), where you can also tour the riding arena (former stables) and the gallery, that is a beautiful panoramic terrace overlooking Teano.

Finally, enjoy a tour of the churches of Teano that are all around the historic centre of the town, such as the Cattedrale di San Clemente (San Clemente Cathedral), that is a former Lombard castle near Piazza Vittoria, today known as la Fortezza (the Fortress).
