San Giacomo Chartreuse and Augustus Gardens in Capri

To visit in Capri there are the San Giacomo Chartreuse and the Gardens of Augustus which are right next to each other, and both offer a breathtaking view of the Faraglioni of Capri and the Capri sea.

The San Giacomo Chartreuse of Capri complex dates back to 1371 and is one of the most ancient buildings in Capri.

After several pirates raid, since 1563 it has been renovated more than once. Its style is the fourteenth-century style, so typical of the Mediterranean architecture; it presents plastered tuff ashlars. It has two cloisters (a big one and a small one) and a garden, known as the Prior’s garden, that is rich in medicinal herbs and spices and that offers some breathtaking views of the Capri island from both the frescoed church and the vicarage. Nowadays it houses several exhibits and fairs.

You can visit the San Giacomo Chartreuse from Tuesday to Sunday. The ticket is 6 euros (the discounted one is 4 euros). Keep in mind that the opening hours may change based on the period of the year.

Near the Certosa, in via Krupp, there are the Augustus Gardens, the famous gardens nestled in the Capri rocks overlooking Marina Piccola and the Faraglioni.

The gardens consist of a series of ledges on different levels that are rich in both flowers and plants, with some pieces of art among them. Everything is surrounded by peace and breathtaking views.

You can visit the Augustus Gardens for free. The site opens at 10.00 in the morning.
