A handy guide for a weekend in Salerno

Salerno is the doorway to both the Amalfi Coast and the Cilento area. Its centre is a people-friendly gem and walking around the whole city does not take that much.

Here’s a small guide for a three-days trip to Salerno.

DAY ONE

You can spend the first day of your three-days trip to Salerno walking along the city seafront up to the Villa Comunale (Municipal Villa) and the Salerno Maritime Terminal by Zaha Hadid.

In summer, you can have a swim at Santa Teresa beach that is not far from piazza della Libertà, where you can have a coffee or a cocktail at the small kiosk right in front of the beach.

DAY TWO

The second day is dedicated to the historic centre, walking along the alleys full of shops and bars, where you can have a delicious breakfast with coffee and croissant.

Moreover, there are many interesting sites to visit, such as the San Pietro a Corte Lombard complex, the Cathedral, the archaeological museum and the Museo della Scuola Medica Salernitana (Salerno Medical School Museum).

Last but not least, you can reach the Giardino della Minerva (Minerva’s Garden), a botanical garden that offers a breathtaking view on the Gulf of Salerno.

DAY THREE

On day 3, you can walk the path that connects the Giardino della Minerva with the Castello di Arechi (Arechi’s Castle), the symbol of Salerno located at 300 metres above sea level on the top of the Bonadies Mount.

SMARTIP

Don’t leave Salerno without having tried a dessert at the famous Pantaleone bakery in via Mercanti.
