Visit Vico Equense, the first village of the Sorrento Coast you reach if you come from Napoli.
It is only 10 minutes away from Sorrento. As a guardian of the slopes of Monte Sant’Angelo, Vico Equense is a gem overlooking the Tyrrhenian sea.
You have to take the Circumvesuviana train towards Sorrento that leaves from the Napoli central train station. You can choose to get off at Vico Equense, Scrajo or Seiano.
One of the most interesting things in Vico Equense is the Santa Maria Annunziata Church. It is a Gothic and Baroque style church suspended between sky and sea, overlooking the Gulf of Napoli.
Next to it there is the Castello Giusso, a castle dating back to the 13th century built on a headland overlooking the sea as requested by Carlo d’Angiò.
Not far from it there is the little known Museo mineralogico campano (Campania Mineral Museum), a must see museum for those who love minerals, fossils and gems.
Near the museum you can find the b&b Casa Assunta where the host is very kind, or the hotel Mary 1 km from the beach and with indoor swimming pool.
Vico Equense is famous for its pizza al metro (pizza by the metre)! Have some at Pizzeria Cardone or at Pizzeria all’angolo.
You can go for a swim in Marina di Vico, a beach with full facilities and restaurants overlooking the sea.
If you have time, you can also stop by the Terme dello Scrajo(Scrajo Thermal Baths). Here you can enjoy a bath in a sulphurous saline-bromic-iodic hypertrophic thermal water spring, that has a boosted therapeutic effect due to its proximity to the sea it flows in, producing a “unique mineral-marine mix”.
