To reach Maiori you can take the SITAsud buses toward Maiori that leave from the train station, whether you are in Napoli or Salerno.
From April to September/October you can reach Maiori by ferry. The Travelmar ferry-boats leave from the Salerno port.
Even though Maiori is a small village, it is rich in art and culture, such as the Collegiata di Santa Maria a Mare, the main church dating back to the 16th century that houses the “Don Clemente Confalone” sacred art museum. The core of the village also houses the famous ancient Mezzacapo Palace’s gardens, renowned for their beauty and their shape, resembling the one of the Maltese cross.
After a short walk (about 2 kilometers) you can visit the Castello di San Nicola de Thoro-Plano, a castle overlooking Maiori, Ravello and the coast. It is one of the few examples of fortification dating back before the year 1000 AD and still having the defensive wall and the towers. Paying few euros, the keeper will guide you through the castle and the museum within it, so you can enjoy some breathtaking views.
Right above Maiori, at the foot of the Falerzio Mount, there is the Santuario di Maria Santissima Avvocata, a shrine dating back to the 15th century. You can reach it walking a tough path that will take about 2 hours, but you will eventually reach a wonderful place.
From the beach of Maiori you can go on a boat tour that reaches the Grotta di Pandora (Pandora’s Grotto), a natural cave full of both stalactites and stalagmites, and the Grotta Sulfurea (Sulfurous Grotto) that houses a sulfurous water spring.
The first thing to do in Maiori is taking a walk along the seafront, then having a coffee and an ice-cream and eventually shopping along the Corso Regina, Maiori’s main street.
If you want to trek, you can walk the Sentiero dei Limoni (Lemons Path), a path that takes about 1 hour from Maiori to Minori, going through small staircases, terracing and lemon groves overlooking the coast.
The beach of Maiori is the longest one of the Amalfi Coast; in fact, it is about 1 kilometer long. The beach is particularly suitable for families, as it is very spacious and has all the comforts, such as coffee shops and restaurants overlooking the sea.
